Story
I had a box filled with family photographs and realising I didn’t know anything about the people in them was the beginning of a new adventure.

We belong to each other, however distant and that connection made me want to know them and bring their stories to life. So I began my family history journey, not knowing where it might lead me, but excited to learn.
I spoke with relatives and used online resources to gather as much information as I could. In the process of my research I learned so much more about social history in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
I have followed the footsteps of ancestors who bravely travelled around the world to build new and better lives. There were days and weeks where I was ‘stuck in the mud’ and it was often frustrating.

Although it appeared I‘d reached a closed door I kept searching for ‘threads to pull’ until I finally found the key. 35 years of auditing and accounting has given me the skills and tenacity to uncover facts. Honestly though, people are far more engaging than numbers.
Where does the journey go from here?

Since completing my own genealogical journey I have had the honour of helping many other people rediscover their own families and friends. My work is bespoke and most of my clients contact me through word of mouth. Its beautiful to watch their tree breathe new life with so many leaves and branches. Sadly many of our ancestors are not here to tell us their own stories but have left it to us as a gift to unwrap.

It has been a privilege to reunite people and help trace birth families of adopted clients. I truly appreciate that it’s a personal and sometimes emotional journey for everyone and there have been many tears (happy & sad). I truly believe every person deserves the same respect I have for my own family. I hold them very carefully in my hands, it’s always an honour to get to know you and your family.
Joanne supported me on my journey to finding my birth parents. My birth father is no longer here but I have now connected with myhalf-sister, aunts and uncles. We are continuing the search for more family members, and my tree has so many more branches now. I don’t know how Joanne managed to find the missing pieces after I had searched for so long. She was almost as excited to find my family as I was.
